Description

A very good book by Delchev and Semkov which is a sequel to The Safest Sicilian.

Inside the book the reader will find a repertoire based on 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 e6. This time both Taimanov and Kan are covered. One common element that these two openings have in common is the pawn structures. In both cases these structures are almost identical. This results in many ideas working in both variants. At the same time the different order of moves offers some important details that may prove to be decisive for the outcome of the opening battle. Delchev is of the opinion that players choosing the Sicilian should be prepared for all possible options after 2…e6.

Each chess player should be ready to choose the appropriate system depending on his opponent. For example, if the white player is closely skilled in the English attack, you can choose to delay …Nc6. This approach effectively discourages White’s setup with Be3.

The book is practically divided into several parts: play against Be2, against f4-g3; the setup on the third line Be3 and Bd3; the English attack; the hedgehog structures. Each part begins with a chapter entitled “Pros and Cons”, which discusses the basic ideas of the Taimanov and Kan approaches and offers advice on what to choose. Subsequent “Step by Step” chapters present detailed theory. Finally, a chapter “Complete Games” offers in-depth commentary on important games.
