Description

The Trompowsky attack starts after the moves 1.d4 Nf6 2.Bg5. White deploys his black-square bishop in the second move and attacks Black’s knight (z6). White immediately threatens to capture the knight to destroy Black’s pawn structure. Black can either allow White to fold their pawns , or avoid it, as both lines are played equally.

The Trompowsky attack is a very good option for White to avoid a few lines against 1.d4. It is also a way for White to catch his opponent off guard. Although there are aggressive lines for White, there are also some calmer and more stable positions. This is done by swapping their bishop and placing their central pawns on black squares creating an extremely stable position.

With the efforts of Magnus Carlsen the Trompowsky attack has recently gained a lot of popularity. The world champion has put players such as Vladimir Kramnik and Sergey Karjakin in a very uncomfortable position.

Certainly Dmitry Kryakvin’s book is an excellent choice which will open up completely new horizons for you!
