Description

The Indian King’s Defence is one of the most stable defences in chess. Black builds an extremely strong defense around his king and then seeks to counterattack depending on where White’s structure is weak.

This defense is a state-of-the-art concept that allows White to control the center of the board early on, while Black seeks to deploy his light pieces early and move his pawns to the center later in the game.

Although the Indian King’s Defence is a very solid opening for Black, it is also very passive in the early stages. But this is only at the beginning. Very quickly all of a sudden there is panic on the board. Black attacks from the king’s wing and countless complications are created on the board. Even today computers cannot understand the resulting positions!  And here comes the book Squeezing the King’s Indian Defence.

The book presents a complete repertoire based on the Gligoric system against the King’s Indian Defence. (1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 Bg7 4.e4 d6 5.Nf3 0-0 6.Be2 e5 7.Be3..

The key element of this structure is that White does not commit his king to any wing. In essence, White is waiting for Black’s reaction so that he can move accordingly. This renders Black’s thematic attack with …f5-f4, …g4 pointless and allows White to play chess without having to memorize a multitude of bariots.

Authors Semko Semkov and Yuriy Krykun focus on standard positions and methods of handling them, which is essential for the Gligoric system. Combined with a multitude of diagrams they analyze patterns and strategies to neutralize the King’s Indian!
